Nach Deutschland!

I shall be spending the next 10 days in Germany with my darling papa and sister!
This is what I wish to see:
''There are many beautiful castles along the banks and archipelago of the Rhine.''

Yes, please!

Some old sketches and a commission from my sister

My sister showed me a kitten ring (by Jaymie) and I told her I could attempt to make her a similar one.
While I got out my magical shrinking plastics I rummaged through some old bits of paper in the same folder and found some beauties:

This little guy is some kind of... dog? I think he had a name too...
I think I planned to do a little book about his adventures.
Maybe some day.

 A jar of cookies/bon bons.

And some lovely drawings by my sister:

*lickables*

A portrait of my sister (on the right) and me (making some earrings, it would seem!):

...and last but not least, Nuuskis!

Ah, good times!

So, here is the first batch of the kitty ring that I did.

Before the oven:

After the oven:

So, systerna, is this kitty cat acceptable?
I think I'll make the eyes a bit smaller...? And the bow...?
And maybe the whole face should be a teensy bit smaller... perhaps...?

So, what colours would you like me to use? (For the eyes, bow, cheeks, ears etc.)

I think I'll make one for myself too, where he has a monocle and a pipe...
and I shall name him... Ishmael.

ps: parane pian lilla systerna!!

*UPDATE*

Here are four little orphan kittens (who have, luckily, not lost their mittens)
for my sister to choose from:

The chosen one:
(one ring to rule them all..!)

Shrinkles krimpies aka. Shrinky dinks

Made some earrings from shrinkable plastic today, didn't really have a plan as to what I wanted to do, so just picked a few favourite colours and got to drawing.

Before the oven:

 After the oven:
 So tiny!
They look like they're covered in tiny crystals of colourful sugar...
*lick lick*

Then I put a coat of lacquer on them
(I admit, I used clear nail polish, since the spray is in my bedroom cupboard and I'm fluish and lazy with allergies to boot),
added some beads and other things and made them into earrings.

A blurry photo of the new couple together:

The chain bits and head pins are recycled from an old bracelet of mine,
the hooks and beads are from Hobbypoint and Sinelli.

I can't decide if they're cool, or just plain ugly.
But at least they're colourful, which was my main goal.
Success!

Another sunny Sunday walk

Ah, the murky waters of Hyljelahti...

This is a place where my sister, my dog and I used to go exploring.
I haven't been there for a few years, so about time to visit again!

You could hear the birds from a kilometer away...!

I don't know what caused the birds to all suddenly take off at once, but the sound they made was unreal, I had to look around myself and check that it was actually the birds that made the sound and not some small airplane about to crash nearby, super freaky.

It came from Olduvai...

There was this really pretty orange duck there, the only one of it's kind!
I tried to get a photo but it kept diving for food...

I also saw a worn turquoise surface so I had to photograph that too!

It wasn't quite as fun as it used to be, with company, but still a lovely walk!

I shall leave you with a lovely (finnish) poem from this old school (finnish) book with the cutest cover:

Hyljelahti was mainly full of some kind of gulls, so I'm not sure I'd call what I heard today beautiful... but bird song is bird song, so yes, it was beautiful, in it's own way!

Rings for the Ears

Some earrings I made. On books. Those I didn't make.
Lovely.

SPIS

My good friends husband is an excellent chef and is starting up his own catering company.
I've been helping him out with some gigs, preparing some foods and waitressing,
so as a thank you, he took me and two other helpers out to dinner.
The restaurant he picked was SPIS.

I'm vegetarian, but asked for the vegan menu (partly because they called up to check if I was indeed just vegetarian, or vegan, so I assumed they might have some special things for vegans. I was wrong.).

Here's a few photos of the more interesting foods:

Carrot lollipops. Surprisingly yummy!

I forget what this was, but look!  A heart!

Beet with some bitter berries, it looks nicer than it tasted, which was disappointing.

Good wine.

Yummy cucumber sorbet with pollen. I ate the pollen. I am allergic to pollen.
The swelling went down within half an hour, though. So all good.

Pretty!

This was so so yummy: apple with kettukarkki!

Dessert was an interesting mix of liquorice root, dill and cucumber.

Overall, a lovely, relaxed thursday evening with friends, interesting food in a nice atmosphere and good service.
